Bakersfield College archive displays Olympic torches

c Games, is now being displayed at the Bakersfield College library archives. Two former staff members, Chuck Wall and Ray Maranda, donated their Olympictorches to BC for the community to view. The origins of the Olympic torch or Olympic fire come from ancient Greece, where a fire was kept burning due to the celebration of the ancient Olympics.

UC Merced on Bakersfield College campus to recruit

At a time when some university campuses are slowing their recruitment efforts, the University of California, Merced campus is stepping up their efforts at community colleges across the state. Frank Ramirez, southern region recruitment and outreach coordinator for UC Merced, said the young university is doing well despite hard economic times.

LA riots, racism depicted in new theater drama 'Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992

"Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992" is the newest production by Bakersfield College's theater department. Written by Anna Deavere Smith, the documentary play is about the Los Angeles riots that took place in 1992 following the acquittal of four Los Angeles Police Department officers of police brutality charges after beating a man named Rodney King.

TV storm chaser Reed Timmer comes to Bakersfield College

Bakersfield College hosts 'Ice Worlds' show at planetarium

Bakersfield College agricultural department installs hydroponics system

Stepping away from traditional farming practices, hydroponics utilizes a system of flowing water mixed with fertilizers to feed plants their nutrients, according to Sally Sterns, horticultural technician and adjunct faculty member at BC.

To the students of Bakersfield College: here is the proverbial flame to be lit underneath your behinds. This is higher education. It is not meant for the lazy and apathetic. The problem of student apathy is pretty common among junior colleges. Students see their first two years here as a stepping stone to bigger and better things, so most don't see the point in taking pride in their school.

The pros and cons of living green

If you don't like the color green, then just say so. But for many people green means a lot more than a fashion statement or someone's preference of M&M's. Being green is a type of lifestyle, one that strives toward the ability for everyone to drink clean, healthy water, breathe air that doesn't agitate asthma and eat food that won't incite cancer.
