BC departments welcome new faculty

Each year, Bakersfield College welcomes new students and new faculty.
More than 15 staff members have recently joined the college faculty in an effort to provide better education for the students.
All the new positions in this campus vary from instructors to custodians to secretaries and even a sign language interpreter.
"I love this school. It's very interesting to see that everyone is nice," said Emily Maddigan, the newest BC ceramics instructor.
Maddigan was born and raised in Detroit, Mich., where she earned her bachelor's degree at Michigan State University in art history and ceramics. Before coming to BC, she worked for Santa Barbara City College for five years in the Art Department focusing on 3D design, ceramics, and art appreciation.
"Students here are not afraid to have their work reflect their life. They are the most honest in terms that what they get out of their work comes from inside," she said.
As a new instructor, Maddigan hopes to stay at BC for a very long time because as she claimed, "Working here has been one of the best experiences in life."
One of Maddigan's goals as a new instructor in this college is to start a new course that currently is not offered.
"My goal right now is to grow this ceramics program to get more people interested and if possible start a new sculpture course."
Students like William Prado are also excited to welcome their new instructors, "I am taking a class with the new philosophy teacher [Matthew Morgan]. He is very cool and seems to know what he's talking about so far. It's nice to have him here."
Also, Paulette Castro, an art major, who is currently taking a class with Maddigan, claims to enjoy her new instructor as well, "I just love her attitude and her appreciation about art; I am happy to have her here."
Prado mentioned that "there is a lot to expect from them, but I know they are here for us."
